All were inthralled as Niki na Meadhra, Storyteller extraordinaire played her craft from Birregurra to Deans Marsh and Bambra last weekend.
The children of Birregurra and Deans Marsh Primary Schools were worthy participants of the tales told, joining in with the sound effects of raging gales, Atlantic Oceans and seas of gulls to enrich the stories unfolding. When the morning of the main event here at Countrywide Cottages brought us the birth of a lamb in the paddock in front of the house where the storytelling event was to take place, we saw it as a great omen to a wonderful weekend. Niki’s tales of Irish myth and legend were delivered with aplomb to the delight of all participants.
We were delighted to be able to host Niki for her final gigs before her trip to Ireland later this month, where she has been invited to tell tales at the International Storytelling Festival in Sneem. Her tour of the country to follow will help her research more stories and provide her with all the more richness of first hand knowledge of the places the stories she already carries arose from. We wish her the very best for her trip!!
There is no doubt that she will be back next year….the word is now out about Niki na Meadhra and her magical skills of Storytelling!! Another fabulous thing to do in the Otways….
